BFF Chain Quilt

I just finished up this quilt using a traditional block called the Friendship Chain but I super-sized it and modernized it with my fabric choices so I updated the name and am calling this my BFF Chain Quilt just for a little fun.  I used my Sizzix Big Shot to diecut the pieces for this quilt and I have provided a tutorial for the block and quilt on the Sizzix Blog today.

The blocks are 16″ each so the quilt finishes at 62″ square.  I’ve been eager to play with these colors for awhile now and have been collecting salmon and navy prints for months.

The prints can all be found in my sponsors shops (see the sidebar).  As I was collecting prints, I decided that there are not enough great navy prints out there!  I hope that changes.  It’s such a timeless color.

I love this shot because it shows that the quilt is the only spot of color in the bleak winterscape.  It’s been a cold winter. I can hardly wait to get out and play in the garden again.

BFF Chain QuiltI quilted using an all over wave with lines spaced approximately 1/2″ apart. I used a cream colored Aurifil thread that blended well with the background and adds some movement to the navy piecing.

BFF Chain QuiltI love this Kate Spain print for the backing–the perfect combo of colors to coordinate with my quilt top.

As you can see, I mixed in three Robert Kaufman Glamour Girls prints for three of the blocks just for added interest in the layout.

I hope you are playing with some colorful fabrics right now to brighten up your winter days as well!
